The essential oil is extracted from the plant by steam/water distillation. There is wide demand for these essential oils to be used in different formulations and finished products. Cymbopogon flexuosus leaves yield lemongrass oils, an important source of vital raw material for synthesis of vitamin A . This oil is used in flavouring, cosmetics, soap and perfumery industry. Screwpine (Pandanus odorotissimus) oils are used for scenting clothes, bouquets, lotions, cosmetics, tobacco and agarbatti.
