Trimmings are either purchased separately or made from a contrast fabric. Fan edge, or braid can be sewn down the leading edges for a gentle accent, or use two rows, set several inches apart for a much bolder effect. A band of contrast fabric can be added, always use a fabric full length rather than join two widths, as the seam will be at eye height and spoil the effect completely! The bottom of the curtain can be trimmed in the same way. Tassel and cut fringes look nice on the leading edges of curtains where the heading is fixed together in the center and dressed back on umbra's or Italian strung.
