The Indian handicraft industry is segregated in to two major parts such as, well-known and lesser known. These categories comprise the entire handicraft industry ranging primary handcraft items to jewellery, metal crafts, papercraft items, etc. Hence, India is a paradox -a unity in diversity, in lan guages, costumes, physiognomy and food and in her contours and topography, equally widespread in her vast variety of arts and crafts. Metal crafts have been an integral part of Indian culture. They are used in various decorative techniques such as inlay, metal casting, carving, applique, etc. Wood-sometimes plain often painted- is used to make everything from furniture to artefacts. While the furniture ranges from the made-as old that is such a range all over the world, its contemporary variants include chairs with painted backs, camel-hide stools, marble-top tables and carved cabinets. These works have been done in Moradabad, Jaipur and Delhi. The Textile of Rajastan has a fascinating range of dyed and block printing fabrics. Each state has its own special colour-scheme design and technique. Paintings are nowhere more vibrant and expressing than that of Rajastan. Tradition of painting traces back to the dawn of civilization. A wide range of lesser-known handicraft items is manufactured by a host of manufacturers.
