The almond is known as the king of nuts among dry fruits, is a highly nutritious food. They are largely cultivated in hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. They are two types; sweet and bitter and are widely used in sweets for delicious tastes and are used in producing almond oil, perfume and cosmetics. India is the world s largest cashew producer and exporter. Within India, the States of Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, and Tamil Nadu as well as in the Northeast are top cashew cultivators. Cashew is supplied in wide range are like Vengurla, Bhubaneshwar, Kanaka and Dhana etc. Peanut is used as food- stuff and widely used for cooking oil, raw seeds, roasted, boiled, animal feed like, pressings, seeds, green material, straw etc, and industrial raw material for soap, detergent, cosmetics. The peanut seed contains 40-50% fat, 20-50% protein, and 10-20% carbohydrate. They grow in tropical and sub tropical areas like in Indian regions of Eastern Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Saurashtra region in Gujarat, West Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. Walnut is a popular dry fruit cultivated in moist coniferous forests of the Eastern and Western Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, hilly regions of North and South, the Eastern hills, Uttar Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh.
