Nickel cadmium batteries are secondary or rechargeables, widely used in electronic equipment like computers, video cameras, radios, flashlights etc. They are in frequent use as they provide high number of charge-discharge cycle, high load performance, even at cold temperature, simple storage and tra nsportation and low maintenance etc.Generally, these batteries are cylindrical with layers of cadmium and nickel oxide separated by absorbent layers containing KOH electrolyte. They can be used for electronics equipment like power tools, toys, radios, computers, flashlights etc. Ni-cds come with 12-13.2 volt sealed pack for video cameras, crafted with protection circuit, LED indicators and cap protector. They can be found in many applications like camcorders and portable drills, battery-powered vehicles, telecom equipment, cell phones etc. They are provided with specific rated capacity, discharge voltage, and effective resistance. Individual cells are rated at 1.2 volts. But they come with high voltages for other applications. A wide range of Ni-cd batteries is manufactured by a host of manufacturers.
