Incense produces fragrant odor when burned. They are widely used in every where at all times for driving away bad smells and evil spirits, to invoke the presence of a deity, to carry prayers heavenward and for healing. In ancient days people burn aromatic plants like cedar wood, sandalwood etc. due to their aromatic healing power. Modern incense is available in sticks or cones, which can be made with powered wood or powered charcoal, or as resins, which can be lumps or granular mixtures. Sticks and cones can be burned themselves, but resins and powders are usually burned on small fires or charcoal disks. The various incense types available are masala incense i.e. blend of spices and herbs, Charcoal is a mixture of perfumes and essential oils. Durbars have sweet and mellifluous smell and slow burning quality. Champas, Woodbase, Dhoops are well known incenses available in Indian market.
